Becoming Independent
Becoming Independent started as a grass roots parent-led organization in 1967 and is now the largest service provider in the North Bay helping people with intellectual and development disabilities live meaningful and productive lives. The 2022 Community Grant award will be used to purchase instruments and equipment for their music academy serving adults with disabilities. Learn more about Becoming Independent here.
Santa Rosa Symphony Association
One of Santa Rosa Symphony’s most successful educational program is the Simply Strings music program for students grades 2-8 attending Roseland Public Schools. Children in this program receive daily, intensive ensemble instruction two hours a day, five days a week after school. Simply Strings develops musical excellence and promotes social engagement. Corazon Healdsburg
Corazón Healdsburg opened its doors in 2016 in Healdsburg, CA, and now serves more than 1,200 individuals and families, most of whom are Latin American, in northern Sonoma County. The organization’s mission is to build a compassionate and just community by empowering and dignifying individuals and families, advocating against injustices, and uniting people to celebrate diversity. The 2022 Community Grant supports the FirstGen college counseling program – empowering academically promising students from Healdsburg High School to attend a four-year college. Elsie Allen High School Foundation
Elsie Allen school serves a richly diverse student population (over 20 languages spoken in any given year) where 73% of families are low income. They are known for programs that offer Career Technical Education as well as acclaimed Ag, Drama and Band programs. The school marching band uniforms are aging, old and becoming unrepairable. The 2022 Community Grant will provide much needed new uniforms for the marching band, instilling pride in performance. Find out more about the foundation here.
Circuit Rider
Circuit Rider was founded in 1976 and provides diversified services delivery to the North Bay community — meeting clients where they are physically and emotionally. The organization has always had strong ties to the land and environment and adapts to the changing needs of the communities they serve. The 2022 Community Grant will help the organization finalize the purchase of a 525-gallon water trailer with pump that will help with both fire rehabilitation (providing water to young seedlings in rough terrain) as well as fire prevention. Sonoma County Parks Foundation
The 2022 Impact 100 Redwood Circle Community Grant award to Sonoma County Parks Foundation will directly support the YES! River outdoor education program. This program is designed to provide a high-quality outdoor experience for local teens who do not have access to a water experience in our parks. Experiences are focused on the Russian River, in summer, on Gualala River in fall and the Petaluma River in the winter. Find our more about this program here.
Food For Thought
Located in Forestville, California, Food For Thought is a nonprofit organization dedicated to meeting the nutrition needs of people living with serious medical conditions in Sonoma County. The 2022 Community Grant will directly support their Fully Belly Program providing nutritional services to low-income and food-insecure pregnant women in Sonoma County. Sonoma County Secure Families Collaborative
The Secure Families Collaborative is the backbone organization to a network of partners who provide pro-bono immigration legal services and wraparound social services to support immigrants in our community. The 2022 Community Grant will be used to cover legal filing fees for Sonoma County immigrant families. Learn more about their work with immigrant families here.
Sonoma Family Meal
Sonoma Family Meal cultivates community and creates opportunity by providing job training, quality emergency meals, and support for the local food system. While they shine when a disaster strikes, jumping into provide emergency meals, they are also launching a pilot program to provide culinary job training for Sonoma County’s underserved population. ARTSTART
The Impact 100 Redwood Circle 2021 Community Grant will supported the Artstart and EAHS partnership creating a mural honoring Elsie Allen, celebrated Native American Pomo basket weaver, who was dedicated to the promotion of education, cultural preservation, and rights of indigenous people. In honoring her contributions, this project supports cultural enrichment, arts education and positive impact on teen mental health through creativity.
GRATON DAY LABOR CENTER / CENTRO LABORAL DE GRATON
Graton Day Labor Center / Centro Laboral de Graton (CLG) is a worker center that organizes with primarily undocumented Latinx and indigenous day laborers, farm workers, house cleaners, childcare providers, and caregivers. The Impact 100 Redwood Circle 2021 Community Grant supported CLG’s efforts to facilitate the vaccination of 1,000 CLG members and their family/household members and provided education and outreach on COVID-19 mitigation and testing.
COASTAL SENIORS
This organization’s Meals on Wheels program serves a large, rural region that has the highest percentage of seniors per capita in California with only a single senior service organization in the area. The Impact 100 Redwood Circle 2021 Community Grant helped expanded service to include Timber Cove and The Stewarts Point Rancheria.
CONSERVATION CORPS NORTH BAY
Conservation Corps North Bay (CCNB) helps at-risk youth earn a living wage while safeguarding Sonoma County’s public lands, waterways, and natural habitats. preparing them for 21st century environmental careers. Impact 100 Redwood Circle 2021 Community Grant funds helped 24 corpsmembers acquire each certifications. 70% of corpsmembers who successfully complete the program will secure employment making an average of $16/hour, with 40% making at least $17/hour. thanks to certifications earned while at CCNB.
FARM TO PANTRY
Farm to Pantry is a nonprofit gleaning organization committed to organizing members of the community to rescue produce that would otherwise go to waste from local farms, orchards and gardens and deliver it to our neighbors facing food insecurity. Impact 100 Redwood Circle’s 2021 Community Grant helped us quadruple the amount of food saved in 2021 compared to the prior year and saved 350,000 pounds of food from going to waste.
SOS COMMUNITY COUNSELING
SOS Community Counseling (SOS) is a collective of mental health therapists, associates, trainees and supervisors who share the goal of helping young people, adult individuals, couples, and families develop tools and perspectives to facilitate greater self awareness and esteem, healthier relationships, and ultimately a greater opportunity to live healthy, happy, and fulfilled lives. Impact 100 Redwood Circle’s Grant supported SOS’ Juvenile Diversion Program, an alternative to detention for Cloverdale students.
STEWARDS OF THE COAST AND REDWOODS
Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods (Stewards) is a nonprofit organization that partners with the Russian River Sector of California State Parks to promote, restore and protect the natural and cultural resources within the parks. The Impact 100 Redwood Circle 2021 Community Grant supported fire recovery efforts including removing/processing of felled trees into firewood to be sold; rehabilitating damaged trails; replacing 7,000 feet of burned fencing; and restoring Bullfrog Pond Campground.
VALLEY OF THE MOON CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION
The Valley of the Moon Children’s Foundation (VMCF) is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the educational achievement and overall health and well-being of current and former foster youth in Sonoma County. Impact 100 Redwood Circle’s 2021 Community Grant was used to replace the “Blue Bags”. A Blue Bag is a duffle bag full of clothing, hygiene products, toys, blankets, and other necessities (such as diapers and formula) that is given to children entering foster care.
THE BIRD RESCUE CENTER – used the grant to help feed baby birds lacking proper nutrition.
BURBANK HOUSING – provided drive-through Summer Lunch program in conjunction with Redwood Empire Food Bank and Santa Rosa Parks and Recreation to help kids facing hunger during the COVID crisis.
F.I.S.H. OF THE SANTA ROSA AREA – used the grant to purchase food from the Redwood Food Bank to help feed those facing hunger in Sonoma County.
JEWISH COMMUNITY FREE CLINIC – provided free lab testing and the cost of medical supplies for Sonoma County residents facing heath issues and finding themselves without health insurance due to the COVID crisis.
MUSEUM OF SONOMA COUNTY – had special exhibits throughout the year honoring the centennial celebration of the Ratification of the 19th Amendment, giving women the right to vote. The grant helped promote and support these exhibits.
REACH FOR HOME – helped with the purchase of a van to be used as an off-site medical and mental health facility – a critical piece of equipment for their work as the only Medical Street Team serving the homeless in Sonoma County.
SRJC FOUNDATION – YOUTH FOSTER PROGRAM – covered the cost of shipping fees for Chromebooks sent to students shifting to remote learning during the COVID crisis. It also supported students with gift cards for food and groceries, allowing them to continue their studies without having to worry about their next meal.
VERITY – supported efforts to help undocumented women and families who find themselves in an abusive situation.
LIME FOUNDATION – NextGen Trades Academy program annually serves up to 85 disadvantaged youth, ages 16-24, by providing introductory construction training, career preparedness skills, and employment opportunities in Sonoma County.
PDI SURGERY CENTER used the grant to treat approximately 53 low-income children with severe tooth decay, reduce dental decay with prevention education, support health insurance, and promote oral health.
RUSSIAN RIVER KEEPER used the grant to purchase a used 34-ton diesel truck for Clean River Alliance staff to haul trash from the river and other sites to disposal. They had secured $27,540 and needed the additional $10,000 to purchase a truck that can haul up to 6,500 pounds of trash per load with their dump trailer.
THE LIVING ROOM serves homeless women and children. The grant was used to add more toilets in their bathroom and help more women who visit their facility. The grant covered the materials, labor, and permits while The Living Room worked with a local contractor who helped modify the bathroom.
WOMEN’S RECOVERY SERVICES supports vulnerable young women and children, treats their addiction, and guides their recovery and care for their children. Women are helped to find stable housing with their children, pursue education, and find jobs.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES provided culturally sensitive emergency outreach assistance to help immigrant victims of violent crimes come out of the shadows and seek justice. www.srcharities.org
CHILDRENS MUSEUM OF SONOMA COUNTY provided hands-on, science-related learning and creative expression for children ages 10 and under through a new Outdoor Learning Lab. www.cmosc.org
ROSELAND COMMUNITY PREP CHARTER SCHOOL provided essential college preparation experiences for students and their families, including college campus tours, adult mentors for juniors and seniors, and parent education workshops. www.roselandsd.org/RCP

THE LIVING ROOM provided 600 food-to-go meals, and simple cooking classes, to homeless women and children in Sonoma County
PDI SURGERY CENTER distributed 3,460 oral health kits and essential information about dental care and services to low-income families in Sonoma County
Community Support Network’s Sanctuary House – extend the counselor’s contract working with the young adults at the sanctuary house. These young adults are homeless and/or transitioning from foster care.
PALS (Paws as Loving Support) assistance dog program – work with at-risk youth at Journey High, teaching them to train service dogs for children with disabilities.
Sonoma County Public Library Foundation’s free bookmobile – increase service of the bookmobile by putting it on the road more often, thus increasing the populations served
SRJC Foundation’s HEP (High School Diploma) program – provide parking permits and bookstore vouchers to students so that they can continue their schooling
UC Cooperative Extension Sonoma’s food recovery coalition – develop a food recovery directory and a food waste awareness campaign.
