With over 30 years of professional experience in managing product management in the banking sector, Carol Washburn has established herself as a seasoned leader. Her educational journey includes an undergraduate degree in Business Management, followed by a Master’s program in Biotechnology and a Master’s in Information Science, with a specialization in Biotechnology and Data Security. Notably, she enriched her knowledge by participating in a class in Jennifer Doudna’s lab at UC Berkeley, where she delved into CRISPR technology.
Carol’s dedication extends beyond the corporate realm, as evidenced by her extensive history of volunteerism. She played a pivotal role in the creation of Shared Family Care, a program developed in collaboration with UC Berkeley, merging foster care and welfare services. This initiative facilitated mothers and children living with foster families, providing a nurturing environment and essential life skills. Witnessing its success, Carol saw three women transition off welfare, independently raising their children.
Inspired by influential figures such as Senator Tip O’Neil and Belle Sawhill of the Brookings Institute, Carol has spent hours discussing and developing approaches to uplift young people from dire circumstances. Her volunteer engagements include hospice work, former membership in Junior League Oakland East Bay, and active roles with Social Advocates for Youth, Redwood Empire Foodbank, and various other food banks.
As an integral part of Impact 100, Carol is grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Co-Chair of the Marketing Committee. Her enthusiasm for contributing to the Sonoma community aligns seamlessly with Impact 100’s mission. In her personal life, Carol finds joy in activities like sailing, hiking, white-water rafting, and wine tasting, sharing these moments with her son and his wife, who she considers the most blessed part of her life.
